Now: Mission Street between the intersection with Valencia and the Bernal Heights connection at Cortland Avenue tosses out one final dense cluster of everything under the sun - many casual Mission visitors never make it down this far, and end up missing some of the best restaurants, clubs, and mixed-neighborhood atmosphere in the city.
Then: Mitchell's Ice Cream has been open since 1953.
How To Get There: From the 24th/Mission BART station, walk south on Mission Street a couple of blocks, and the restaurants and clubs will become more dense once you pass Cesar Chavez. Or take the J-Church to the stop between Day Street and 30th, and walk east on 29th Street to Mission.
