Now: Right in the middle of the vast Sunset District, the commercial patch of Noriega Street is relatively remote. Traffic flows by on adjacent 19th Avenue, but not many non-residents end up here. The businesses are predominantly Asian, with a few surprises thrown in.
Then: Noriega Street is named after a Spanish soldier and former commander of the Monterey Presidio.
How To Get There: The 71-line Muni bus comes through here, all the way from the Haight. The N-Judah runs four blocks to the north. Parking is easy around the side streets, if not on Noriega Street itself.
